Embarking on the creation of a perfect flying dress involves a journey of expensive and time consuming prototyping – a process that becomes the canvas for valuable lessons and transformative discoveries. Our initial foray into creating flying dresses involved experimenting with various fabrics and patterns. The extended sewing time not only incurred additional costs but also posed challenges in delicacy and susceptibility to tears. Our goal was to craft dresses that endure, and the delicate nature of these fabrics, coupled with difficulty in cleaning, led us to pivot towards materials that balance longevity and ease of care. Determining the perfect train length became a focal point of our prototyping endeavors. While many assume longer is always better in the realm of flying dresses, aerodynamics taught us otherwise. Experimenting with various lengths and shapes with the very active trade winds of Hawaii, we found the delicate balance between drama and functionality. The ideal train length emerged, ensuring the dress can sustain itself in flight without compromising on elegance.
